Get Involved

Women from Nyakabande

We are constantly endeavoring to raise awareness of the Batwa’s circumstances, and ensure the strides they are taking toward improving their lives continue.  We are able to do this through the generous support of others.  If you are interested in helping further our efforts, there are a number of ways to do so:

1)      Raise awareness by talking to others about the Batwa, and UOBDU’s  efforts.

2)      Make a donation.  Any amount helps further our efforts.

3)      Experience The Batwa Trail:  if you will be visiting the southwestern region of Uganda, we strongly recommend experiencing The Batwa Trail in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, not far from our office headquarters.  At a cost of $80, participants are taken on a 4-5 hour walk along the base of the beautiful Virunga volcanoes, guided by Batwa who demonstrate some of the their traditional living, hunting, and foraging practices along the way.  The walk ends with a visit to Garama cave, and traditional singing and dancing.  In addition to providing employment for the Batwa, a half of the trail’s proceeds directly benefit Batwa communities.  To book your place on the trail, please contact the UWA offices in Kampala or Kisoro.

4)      UOBDU greatly appreciates the support of volunteers and interns.  If you are interested in applying for an internship with UOBDU please contact us at uobdubatwa@gmail.com with your information.  In the past UOBDU volunteers like Dina Buck (USA) have helped to develop a media strategy that includes this website.
